Clark Drive Estate

A whole house makeover including various additions totaling 60% of the original home’s area. The local planning authority considered the original structure to be part of the historical fabric of the neighborhood, so the design process was a tightrope walk between historical preservation, tight site constraints, and client aspirations. The pie shaped parcel necessitated a ‘kink’ in the orthogonal floor plan, thus allowing interior spaces at the rear of the home to connect with exterior landscape elements, including a pool and cabana. The architecture maintained existing historical reference points but reorganized the mass of the structure into a grand composition of powerful forms with interlocking geometries. Interior spaces are filled with light and woven together in a way that reinforces the intrigue of discovering mysterious spaces just around the next corner.
